I was kindly invited to the Burns Night Supper in the Liverpool Philharmonic Dining Rooms and I’m here to tell you all about it.
It started with us being treated to a different kind of culture, when I lovely gentleman named Malcolm circled the room playing the bagpipes, adding a true feeling of Scottish culture.
Then we went on to have some amazing food. For the starter I opted for the smoked Scottish salmon which came with two pieces of sourdough bread. The salmon was beautiful and paired perfectly well with the sourdough. A delicious start to the night.
After that delicious starter, and another round of bagpipes from Malcolm, it was time for the main course. I was really intrigued by the Balmoral chicken, which was the star of the dish and consisted off a chicken breast that was filled with haggis and wrapped in smoked bacon. It was accompanied by creamy mash, seasonal veggies and a rich whiskey sauce which was a 11/10.
Having never tried haggis before, I was super excited that I finally got the chance and I actually really liked it. Whilst I thought that the texture was a tad strange in my mouth the after taste was delicious. I look forward to having haggis again.
How amazing does this dish look? I’d love to have it again. The mash was super good too, super smooth and creamy. I thought some of carrots where a little hard but still good. I really like my vegetables. Now for that rich whiskey sauce, I need that sauce in my life everyday, it was super good and paired perfectly with the chicken.
We finished the night with a Jonnie Walker Whiskey drink. I went with the Jonnie and ginger, which was Jonnie Walker Whiskey and ginger ale, which I was super happy about when I saw this on the menu, I love a whiskey and ginger ale. My friend went with the Jonnie and Lemon, which was a Jonnie Walker Whiskey and lemonade. I think they both look super good.
The Burns Night experience is on for two nights only. So if you're ever in yourself in Liverpool and this event it on, I would recommend purchasing tickets, it's a super fun insight into another culture, I enjoyed myself and was grateful for the opportunity to attend.
Thank you for reading and stay safe out there.
